Dear Shasty,

Thank you for being such a special part of my time in Denver. Parties at Chuck’s house. Introducing me to Sonic, then cruisin’ the Sloans Lake parking lot. Text messaging me—almost every hour on my way to Durango with a joke or kind word. Moab. Eating steak off your nipple at my farewell dinner.

And when I decided to leave Denver, for helping me pack and carefully load the U-Haul.

Oh Moab! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in one weekend. The stories we shared in the car ride—laughing so hard I could hardly see the road through tears of laughter. You and I staying up talking until we got shushed and crawling into our tents as the birds started chirping.

Eating great meals thanks to your cooking!

And driving around until we found the perfect place to watch the sunset—then crankin’ the tunes and enjoying a bottle of wine.

You are missed by so many, and reading all that others have posted makes me wish we had more time to spend together. You are one of the best spirits I have ever known. There’s an emptiness in the world without you.

Much love, Britt

Dear Shasty,

It's been more than a month since you left the building and today September nineteenth many of our Denver friends will muster to celebrate and reflect. Sadly, I will miss the event in City Park. Yet, know that I am there with you too, among all who knew you and those who experienced your undeniable energy. Thanks for including me in that. When I last saw you on the 4th of July, it seemed as if we were all in theme for the moment - celebrating our own independence. Me off to Arizona and you with a fresh new ride…and yo, your ride was pimped too and how I wish I could have seen you in the wind on it. You beamed when you told me you just got it and your plans with it. And I beamed too because I knew you secretly loved the whole experience of horsepower derived from internal combustion. We often talked about racing the go-karts and I’ll miss that sensation of running wheel-to-wheel, our asses only inches off the pavement at some unnerving speed. So, the next time I go out to the track I’ll be sure to have you join me for some fastlaps. And whats up with that pool trick we tirelessly worked on at Lefty’s. Sure, you saw it done on tv. It likely still confuses the patrons there to this very day. Anyway, just wanted to check in here to visit. Thanks for being so real, Eric – I miss you, man. I’ll check in again – you do the same…text message ok, too.
